USA East Coast in September
Fall in this region is beautiful however it would have been more so a few weeks later when the colors are at their height. Unfortunately work, holiday schedules and nature don’t always co-operate but on the plus side we had balmy days which made excellent sighting-seeing weather. This being my first road-trip, I had felt some angst on how much pre-planning was required. We booked our accommodation in New York, Boston and Niagara Falls before our departure with the rest done during the trip, one day in advance and that generally worked out well. The best accommodation were the AirBnB’s. The country Inn’s were charming and as you would expect, the large chain hotels on the whole were small and expensive.
It is a great temptation to cram holidays but returning home exhausted, is simply not fun so we did our best to resist. This trip comprised of 1 night in New York, a train trip to Boston departing at a civilized hour of 11 am after a calorie laden diner breakfast. We stayed 8 nights in Boston, then we had a 9 night road trip ending in Albany. From there we took another train trip to New York for an 8 night stay. In retrospect, we needed an extra three days during the road-trip, one night is not enough in most places.
